SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Three people including two women and a young girl were killed and five others injured when a mortar shell reportedly struck a nomadic tent in Upper South Waziristan’s Sararogha tehsil on Monday.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in the Ahmad Wam area where a Kuchchi nomadic family was residing in a temporary camp under the open sky. The mortar shell suddenly hit the camp, leaving the family trapped.
Two women and an innocent girl died on the spot, while five others, including men, women, and children, sustained serious injuries.
Locals immediately launched rescue efforts and shifted all the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Officials said the mortar was fired by unidentified persons and an investigation into the incident is underway.
Residents have demanded financial assistance for the affected family.
This comes a day after another mortar shell hit a house in Shawal tehsil killing one person and injuring a woman.
Security forces have been deployed in the area and authorities say they are working to determine the source of the firing.
