ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains, flash floods and rain-related accidents claimed several lives and left others injured across different parts of Pakistan on Monday, while widespread damage was reported to homes, agricultural land and infrastructure.
In Kohat’s Paya Jawaki area, a woman and her two children were swept away by a swollen stream. Local residents launched a rescue operation and recovered the bodies of the mother and daughter, while the son was rescued alive.
In Lower Dir’s Samar Bagh tehsil, a 10-year-old schoolboy died after being swept away by a flash flood while returning home from school in the Jozu area. Rescue officials said the child’s body was recovered several hours later from the Drangal Chakdara area following an extensive search operation.
In Pakpattan, a five-year-old boy drowned after slipping into a canal. Rescue authorities said a search operation was underway to locate the child. His parents said they had been heading towards their fields and were unaware that the boy had followed them out of the house.
Meanwhile, a flash flood in Chitral’s Joghor area caused extensive destruction, damaging more than 25 houses, agricultural land and several link bridges. The district administration said relief operations were continuing, although affected residents claimed they had yet to receive government assistance.
In Kharian’s Doga Colony, five people, including two women, were injured when the roof of a mud-built animal shelter collapsed. Rescue teams pulled the injured from the debris and shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Rawalpindi also witnessed widespread urban flooding after heavy rainfall inundated several low-lying areas. A six-year-old child reportedly drowned in a stormwater drain, while rainwater entered streets and residential neighbourhoods in various parts of Rawalpindi Cantonment. The main road in Dhoke Khabba was also submerged, disrupting traffic.
The heavy downpour severely affected transportation in several areas, with floodwater entering homes and leaving residents stranded. Authorities continued rescue and relief efforts as monsoon rains persisted across parts of the country.
