ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has officially obtained a British passport, a development that will change his status in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) from a local player to an overseas player.
After his international career, this legal process means that Mohammad Amir will be participating in the next draft of the PSL as an overseas player in the year 2027. This decision can bring about some changes in franchise strategies like selection and combination of players.
Being a British citizen now, Mohammad Amir will be participating in the IPL Auction as a British citizen. This will allow him to play in one of the most prestigious T20 leagues of the world.
The left-handed fast bowler, who has played an important role in Pakistan’s victories, is still considered to be one of the best fast bowlers of T20 cricket.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has explained why experienced fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was left out of the playing XI for the second Test against the West Indies.
The decision surprised many cricket followers as Abbas had delivered a match-winning performance in the first Test, claiming eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in an innings.
Although the team management brought about four changes in the team after Pakistan lost the first Test match against the Windies, the exclusion of Abbas became a hot topic of discussion and controversy because he was the top performer of the match.
The reason for this move was that Abbas was fit but was not picked in the team keeping in mind the weather and pitch conditions of the venue. Babar added that Sajid Khan was brought into the team as a leg-spinner while a debut appearance was given to the young fast bowler Ubaid Shah.
Since Abbas rejoined the national team in December 2024, he has become the highest wicket-taking Test bowler for Pakistan and has taken 28 wickets in just five matches.
Abbas has maintained consistency even on slow pitches, like the pitches in the UAE and Bangladesh. Experience of English county cricket may be helpful for Abbas in the Test series that will be played by Pakistan in England.
