HANGU: Six police personnel who went missing following an attack on the Khazina Banda checkpoint in Hangu have been safely recovered, police confirmed on Thursday.
According to police officials, the personnel were taken into custody by the attackers during the assault on the Khazina Banda checkpoint. Officials said the six officers were released following the intervention by local elders and tribal notables.
The community leaders negotiated with the assailants, which led to the safe release of the kidnapped policemen. The recovered personnel have been shifted to Doaba Police Station for medical check-up and further legal formalities.
Police identified the released officers as Shah Zeb Khan, Maqsood, Ghani Akbar, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Shehzad, and Musaddiq Hussain. Authorities said an investigation into the attack on the checkpoint is underway and security in the area has been put on high alert to prevent any further incidents.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police check posts remain frequent targets. Local officials praised the role of community elders in securing the safe release of the personnel without any casualties.
