ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released its latest assessment of the devastation caused by ongoing monsoon rains across Pakistan, reporting that the nationwide death toll has climbed to 121, with 381 people injured since June 26.
According to the NDMA, eight more people lost their lives and 17 others were injured in rain-related incidents during the past 24 hours.
The authority said the deceased include 55 children, 41 men and 25 women, highlighting the severe human toll of the prolonged spell of monsoon weather.
Provincial data showed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 55 deaths, followed by Punjab 45, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 10, Balochistan 8, Sindh 2 and Gilgit-Baltistan one.
Punjab also reported the highest number of injuries, with 279 people wounded, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 80 injuries, Balochistan 15, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 5, and Sindh with two.
The NDMA said the monsoon rains have also caused extensive damage to infrastructure and livelihoods.
A total of 901 houses have been damaged or destroyed, while 459 livestock have perished in flood-related incidents.
In addition, 36 bridges and nearly 25 kilometres of roads have sustained significant damage. The disaster management authority urged the public to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall and to follow the advisories issued by relevant authorities to minimize further loss of life and property.
