ISLAMABAD: August is set to offer a series of public holidays and long weekends for employees and students across Pakistan with the month featuring two expected federal holidays alongside regular weekly breaks.
According to the calendar of 2026, there are going to be two public holidays in Pakistan in the month of August. Being of five complete weeks, there will be five Saturdays and five Sundays as well, thus giving 10 weekend holidays for institutions having a two-day weekend.
Employees and students of the organizations, whether governmental or private which remain closed on both Saturday and Sunday could get 12 days off in August. For those who take Sunday as the weekly holiday, there will be 7 days off which comprise of five Sundays and two public holidays.
The first of the public holidays is Independence Day falling on August 14 (Friday). Thus there will be a long weekend for the employees and students starting from August 14 to 16.
The second expected public holiday will mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12 Rabi Al-Awwal), which is currently projected to fall on August 25, based on preliminary lunar calendar calculations. However, the date remains subject to the official moon-sighting process.
If the first day of Rabi Al-Awwal happens on August 15, then the celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi will take place on August 26. The final date would be declared by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, followed by an official declaration of a public holiday from the federal government.
