PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is ready to hand over the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), sources said.
According to sources, contacts between the KP government and the Pakistan Cricket Board are ongoing, and two rounds of talks have already been held to finalize the terms and conditions of the handover.
Sources added that the provincial government is also reviewing the agreements signed with the PCB for Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi’s National Cricket Stadium. KP Advisor on Sports Taj Muhammad Tarand said the government wants to see international cricket restored in the province. “We are reviewing the agreements of Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium,” he said.
“No final decision has yet been made to hand over the stadium to the PCB.”The Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, located in Peshawar, has been a long-standing demand of cricket fans in KP for hosting international matches.
If transferred to the PCB, the board would be responsible for its operations, maintenance, and upgrading it to international standards. Officials believe handing over the stadium to the PCB could pave the way for the return of international cricket to Peshawar.
