ISLAMABAD: A 25-year-old candidate aspiring to join the Islamabad Police died during a physical fitness test on Wednesday, police officials said.
According to Islamabad Police, the candidate, identified as Ishaq, collapsed and lost consciousness while running during the recruitment process. He was immediately shifted by ambulance to the Emergency Ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Doctors at PIMS confirmed that Ishaq had died on the way to the hospital. Police said Ishaq hailed from Sarai Naurang, Lakki Marwat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He had come to Islamabad with the hope of securing a job in the police force.
The incident triggered grief among fellow candidates and family members who were present at the recruitment centre. Islamabad Police said they have launched an inquiry to gather further details about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death. A post-mortem is expected to determine whether it was due to cardiac arrest, heat exhaustion, or another medical condition.
The recruitment drive for Islamabad Police had drawn hundreds of young aspirants from across the country. Authorities have urged candidates to undergo medical check-ups before appearing for strenuous physical tests.
