PESHAWAR: The election campaign time in 13 constituencies of three districts of Mirpur division of Azad Kashmir ended at 12:00 am midnight, after which the election activities have entered the final phase.
The delivery of election materials to polling stations will start today (Sunday). In the first phase of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly, polling will be held in 13 constituencies of three districts of Mirpur division, Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber on July 27.
The total number of registered voters in these constituencies is 1410439 lakh , including seven lakh 25 thousand 118 male and 675628 female voters.
A total of 2454 polling stations have been set up in Mirpur division. 597 polling stations have been set up in four constituencies of Mirpur district, 1,107 in six constituencies of Kotli district, while 608 polling stations have been set up in three constituencies of Bhimber district.
A total of 296 candidates are in the fray from various political parties, including Muslim League (N), Pakistan Peoples Party, Ustadz Pakistan Party and independent candidates, in 13 constituencies of Mirpur division.
According to political circles, a tough contest is expected between Pakistan Peoples Party, Muslim League (N) and Ustadz Pakistan Party in LA-3 Mirpur, LA-6 Bhimber and LA-10 Kotli. On the other hand, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has announced its full support for the Muslim League (N) in the Azad Kashmir elections.
A delegation of the Muslim League (N) led by the party’s provincial president Bashir Memon reached the MQM Pakistan headquarters in Bahadar Abad, where the delegation met with senior MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar and other leaders.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Farooq Sattar announced his support for the Muslim League (N) in the Azad Kashmir elections and said that all MQM-Pakistan candidates will withdraw in favor of the Muslim League (N). Now all eyes are on the July 27 polling and the decision of the people.
