COLOMBO: Pakistan women’s cricket team on Thursday outclassed hosts Sri Lanka by five wickets in the first one-day international of the three-match series played at Hambantota.
The host team set a target of 211 runs to win in the allotted 50 overs,Pakistan’s bowlers kept the scoring under control with a disciplined performance, limiting Sri Lanka despite some middle-order resistance.
Pakistani women cricketers chased down the target comfortably with seven overs to spare. Opener Gull Feroza and Sidra Amin hit fifties to help their side won the match. Both scored 78 and 57 runs respectively.
The second ODI will be played on Saturday, while the third and final match is scheduled for 28th of this month at the same venue. The two sides will also play a three-match T20 International series, which will begin on the 31st of this month. The victory gives Pakistan early momentum in the series as they look to build on the result in the remaining ODIs.
