Security officials claimed that the killing of Session Judge Abdul Hakim Kakar and his bodyguard is part of a broader pattern aimed at spreading fear and destabilizing the province.

The targeted killing of a member of the judiciary indicates that militant elements are now directly targeting state institutions. The incident comes amid a series of attacks in recent days. Five laborers were killed in Mashkel, Washuk. On July 22, three people were killed in a firing on a bus in Khuzdar’s Khadkocha area. Earlier, an innocent woman was also killed in a firing on a vehicle.

Analysts believe all these attacks are part of a deliberate attempt to create chaos and an atmosphere of fear in Balochistan. The killing of Judge Kakar is also being viewed in the context of the conviction of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Mahrang Baloch by an Anti-Terrorism Court in Quetta on June 22, 2026.

On the same day, BYC central leader Sami Deen issued a statement on social media accusing the judiciary of “tilting the scales of justice in favour of the powerful” and acting as “puppets on the orders of the establishment.

“Following that statement, several circles in Balochistan had warned that the judiciary could be targeted in the coming days. Security experts say the BYC serves as the political face of the banned BLA and other terrorist organizations. They argue that Sami Deen’s statement was in effect a directive to these groups to avenge Mahrang Baloch’s conviction by attacking the judiciary.

Judge Abdul Hakim Kakar’s killing, exactly one month later, appears to confirm those fears and suggests a link between the BYC and terrorist groups operating in the province. Government officials stated that terrorists and their facilitators are carrying out attacks without distinction against labourers, government officials, women and children. Their only objective, officials said, is to sabotage the development of Balochistan and Pakistan at the behest of external actors. Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the attack and vowed that the state would bring the terrorists and their facilitators to justice and hold them accountable for the blood of martyrs.
