ISLAMABAD: The capital is likely to get AI-powered traffic signals under the Safe City Expansion Project as authorities push ahead with plans to improve traffic management.
The proposal was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Director General Islamabad Safe City and Deputy Inspector General (Traffic) Muhammad Haroon Joiya. The meeting was also attended by officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Safe City technical team. The new traffic signals will use artificial intelligence to respond to changing traffic conditions, helping reduce congestion at busy intersections and improve the flow of vehicles across the city.
During the meeting, the DIG Traffic Haroon Joiya instructed the departments concerned to complete the project on time and ensure close coordination throughout its implementation. Officials said the smart traffic system is expected to improve road safety, encourage better traffic discipline and make daily commuting more convenient.
The initiative is part of the broader Safe City Expansion Project, under which authorities are introducing modern technology to strengthen traffic management and support smart policing in the capital. Officials believe the use of AI-based systems will play an important role in improving urban mobility as traffic volumes continue to increase.
