PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber affiliated with ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ targeted a vacated security checkpost in the Karikot area of Wana, South Waziristan, in the early hours of Thursday, according to security sources.
The attack reportedly took place at a former security post established in the old Janan Girls School building. Officials said the checkpost had already been vacated before the attack and was no longer being used for operational duties.
Security sources said the suicide bomber detonated explosives at the abandoned post, resulting only in the attacker’s death.
No security personnel were present at the site at the time of the blast, and no casualties or damage to security forces were reported.
The sources said the incident reflected that the attackers had targeted a location that was no longer occupied. However, no independent confirmation of that assessment was immediately available.
Authorities are continuing to assess the site, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
