PESHAWAR: Three senior officials of the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) have sought transfers following the circulation of a video showing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Tourism, Malik Adeel Iqbal, allegedly rebuking GDA officers in the presence of his cameramen.

According to a joint two-page letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, GDA Director General Muhammad Fawad, Director Administration Noorul Haq and Director Building Control Farrukh Jadoon requested postings to other positions, citing the need to safeguard public interest and ensure the smooth functioning of the service.

The officers stated that over the past six months, the authority had implemented wide-ranging reforms, including operations against illegal encroachments, enforcement of building regulations, implementation of a land use plan, introduction of digital systems, cashless payment mechanisms and document verification measures.

However, they said recent public remarks, their widespread circulation on social media and the resulting administrative and legal uncertainty had adversely affected the organization’s working environment, making it increasingly difficult for them to perform their duties effectively.

While describing the request as being made primarily on personal grounds, the officers urged the provincial government to assign them to other suitable posts in the broader public and service interest.

Sources said the transfer request came after the special assistant’s reportedly stern conduct toward GDA officials, which was recorded and widely shared by his social media team, creating what they described as an atmosphere of humiliation and affecting staff morale.
