HANGU: A claim circulating on social media that militants had taken control of a Federal Constabulary (FC) fort in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is false and misleading, according to a fact-check based on security sources and ground information.
A video shared online by Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to create the impression that the group had captured a key security installation. However, security officials rejected the claim, stating that the footage was part of a propaganda effort aimed at spreading fear and misinformation.
According to information obtained from security sources, there was no takeover of the facility. Officials said the location was briefly unoccupied during a routine rotation of security personnel, which militants allegedly exploited to enter the area and record a propaganda video.
Sources said the individuals involved failed to carry out any operation and left the site before the arrival of security forces. The facility remains under the control of Pakistani security personnel, with troops deployed there as part of regular security arrangements.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious about unverified information circulating online and avoid sharing misleading videos or claims without proper verification.
Officials said such digital propaganda campaigns are intended to create confusion and fear, and stressed the importance of relying on verified information from credible sources.
