ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has yet to reach a final decision on whether to boycott the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections, as differences persist between the party’s Political Committee and its AJK governing body.

According to party sources, the Political Committee had earlier linked its decision to boycott the elections to a review meeting that was to be held within seven days. However, despite the deadline expiring on July 9, no such meeting has been convened.

The uncertainty comes despite the PTI AJK governing body recommending participation in the elections. During its meeting on July 9, the governing body reportedly voted by a majority in favour of contesting the polls, while the Political Committee had previously announced a boycott.

Sources said the lack of clarity over the party’s election strategy has prompted five ticket holders and applicants to leave PTI.

They added that the opposition leadership at the federal level had also advised the party against making a hasty decision on boycotting the elections.
