District administration has launched a large-scale operation against illegal gold mining in Nizam Pur tehsil as more than 1,000 people have been booked in FIRs registered at various police stations.

‎Speaking to Pakhtun Digital Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir said illegal gold extraction had been going on for years in the mountainous areas of Nizam Pur.

‎”The illegal activity was not only causing losses worth millions to the national exchequer, but was also damaging the local environment and putting the lives of residents at risk,” he said.

‎The DC stated that a crackdown was carried out in coordination with relevant departments.
‎”We have initiated strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. So far, FIRs have been registered against over 1,000 individuals, and heavy machinery and equipment used in the process have also been seized,” he added.

‎According to Mr. Wazir, the objective of the operation is to protect natural resources and uphold the rule of law.
‎”Illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances. All those found involved will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law,” he said.

‎Local sources said the operation has led to a noticeable decline in illegal activities in the area. However, residents have urged the government to also introduce legal and regulated mining opportunities in Nizam Pur so that local youth can get employment.

‎The district administration confirmed that the operation will continue in the coming phases and no leniency will be shown to those involved in illegal mining.
