ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court has sought the complete record of recruitments made since 2016 in connection with the hiring of sanitation workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), following allegations that highly educated candidates, including master’s degree holders were appointed through politically motivated recruitment.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner argued that appointments were made despite an existing ban on political recruitment, alleging that preferred candidates were hired on the recommendation of a member of the provincial assembly.

Responding to the allegations, the Additional Advocate General contended that the alleged recommendation letter was forged, stating that it lacked a signature, official seal, and reference number. He remarked that such a document could easily be produced on a computer.

Justice Aamir Farooq responded humorously, saying, “At the very least, don’t generate forged documents from our court’s system,” prompting laughter in the courtroom.

Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi observed that many applicants for sanitation worker positions hold master’s degrees but often do not perform the duties associated with the job. He noted that some appear in formal attire rather than carrying out sanitation work, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Justice Aamir Farooq also expressed concern over the broader employment situation, noting that the lack of job opportunities has compelled highly educated individuals to apply for positions traditionally requiring limited formal education. He further remarked that even if the petitioner had been appointed, such a recruitment would have constituted a violation of the existing restrictions.

The Court ordered the concerned officials to produce full recruitment papers since 2016 till now, observing that the matter would be heard in regard to legality of the appointments. The case has been adjourned till next week.
