ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms from Monday night through Tuesday, warning of possible flash flooding in low-lying urban areas and landslides in northern mountainous regions.

According to the PMD, heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in the mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The weather department also warned that low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad could experience urban flooding due to heavy downpours.

On Tuesday, rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected at scattered locations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

In Islamabad and surrounding areas, partly cloudy conditions are likely to prevail, with strong winds, thunderstorms and rain.

Heavy rainfall and isolated hailstorms are also expected during the period.In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is forecast for Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Heavy rain and hailstorms are particularly likely in Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Peshawar, Kurram, Mardan and Swabi.

In Punjab, rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Khanewal.

The PMD added that northeastern Punjab and the Potohar region are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with isolated hailstorms also expected in some areas.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to exercise caution and stay updated with official weather advisories.
