Google has started rolling out a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered feature for Gmail that will allow users to search their emails using voice commands.

The feature, called Gmail Live, is currently available to a limited number of users in beta on both Android and iOS devices, according to a report by 9to5 Google.

Gmail Live enables users to search their inbox simply by speaking, eliminating the need to type search queries.

The feature is powered by Google’s Gemini AI and functions in a similar way to Gemini Live, which allows users to interact with the AI chatbot through live voice conversations.

According to the report, the feature will be expanded to Google Docs and Google Drive in the coming months, bringing voice-powered search capabilities across Google’s productivity apps.

Once available, users will see a new Live icon alongside the Gemini button in the Gmail search interface.

Tapping the icon will launch Gmail Live in full-screen mode, allowing users to ask Gemini to locate specific emails or information within their inbox using natural voice commands.

Google first announced the Gemini-powered feature during its annual developer conference in May 2026 and has now started rolling it out in phases.

Initially, Gmail Live will be available exclusively to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers before becoming more widely accessible.
