PESHAWAR: Despite price hike, thousands of essential medicines have disappeared from the market in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing serious difficulties for patients and their relatives.

These include pills, injections, vaccines and syrups from domestic and foreign companies that are used in various diseases including diabetes, blood pressure, heart and infections. Traders in the medicine market say that some shopkeepers are selling medicines at high prices due to lack of availability.

The situation is so serious that the sale of Iranian and Indian medicines, including life-saving medicines, has also increased. According to pharmacy owners, they are forced to give alternative medicines, but doctors say that the alternative is affecting the desired treatment of patients. The citizens have demanded the government to take immediate notice to ensure the supply of medicines.

Meanwhile the case of alleged fake appointments in the health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken a new turn. In the official reply submitted in the Service Tribunal Peshawar, the Department of Health, Director General Health Services and District Health Officer Bannu have taken a clear stand. Former District Health Officer Bannu also declared the signatures on the order as fake.

The department informed the court that the joining report and medical certificate of the applicant were not available in the official records. It was decided that no one can get the right to salary or service benefits on the basis of forged documents, so the service appeal should be rejected with costs. Deputy Director Promotion Cell Dr. Sardar Muhammad Bilal Khan has been appointed as Departmental Representative.
