ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed the government’s resolve to supporting and empowering teachers as the nation marks World Teachers’ Day today (on Sunday).

In his message, President Zardari congratulated teachers in Pakistan and around the globe, recognising their dedication, wisdom, and sacrifices in shaping future generations.

He said initiatives to strengthen teacher training institutions, integrate technology into classrooms, improve working conditions, and uphold the dignity and respect of teachers remain central to the government’s vision for a “robust, inclusive, and future-ready education system.”

“Teaching is not merely a profession; it is a sacred calling of the highest order,” the president stated. “Teachers are custodians of knowledge and values who guide young minds toward truth, justice, and excellence. Their influence extends far beyond classrooms, transforming lives, strengthening communities, and laying the foundations for enlightened and prosperous societies.”

Paying rich tribute to educators for their tireless service, he urged collective efforts to respect, support, and empower teachers so they may continue guiding future generations toward wisdom and progress.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is prioritising the modernisation of the education system to equip the younger generation with the skills needed to compete globally in science and technology.

He said Pakistan joins the international community in honouring teachers for their invaluable contributions, noting that World Teachers’ Day offers an opportunity to acknowledge their role in advancing education and nation-building.

“This year, World Teachers’ Day 2025 is being celebrated under the theme ‘Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession’ — highlighting the importance of harmony among teachers, schools, and education systems worldwide,” he added.

The prime minister said only a modern, high-quality education system can enhance both individual and collective capacities, ultimately improving governance and national development.
