PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has significantly increased PTC grants for government schools across the province.
The provincial cabinet has approved dividing them into three new categories to improve the grant system, under which the amount received by schools will more than double.
According to the new policy, the “Classroom Consumables Grant” has now been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 13,000 per classroom. Similarly, the “PT Repairs Grant” has also been increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 16,000 per classroom. The government has also introduced a “Capitation Grant of Rs 300 per student” as a new category to encourage increased student enrolment and attendance.
A total of Rs 6.185 billion was allocated under PTC grants for the fiscal year. The Finance Department has immediately released funds of Rs 3.073 billion for the third and fourth quarters of the financial year. Out of these funds, Rs 2.73 billion 87 lakh has been allocated for schools in settled districts and Rs 33 crore 42 lakh for schools in merged districts.
According to education department officials, after the timely release of funds, 100 percent provision of PTC grants to all government schools in the province has been completed. This move will provide schools with direct financial resources for daily classroom needs, minor repairs, and increasing student attendance.
The government says that the increase in grants aims to empower schools and improve the quality of education, and bring educational facilities in merged districts at par with settled districts.
