WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that commercial and oil-laden vessels have begun crossing the Strait of Hormuz, adding that several ships carrying crude oil are now moving through the strategic waterway.

In a statement, Trump said maritime traffic in the region had resumed movement, noting that ships were heading toward what he described as a “safer southern area.”

Strait of Hormuz is among the busiest oil transit passage in the world, through which much of the world’s exported crude passes.

Any threat to the passage remains significant to international markets and the shipping industry because of its importance to global oil trade.

Trump Predicts Immediate US-Iran Deal as Tehran Urges Patience

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump claimed that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran could be signed as early as today, while Iranian officials have pushed back against the proposed timeline, saying an agreement may take several more days.

According to international media reports, Trump noted that a draft which should be the final step toward the end of hostilities between the two states is already nearing completion and will be soon signed.

Trump also mentioned the possibility of opening up the Strait of Hormuz to everyone involved as one of the main consequences of such an agreement. Furthermore, the US president noted that there will be a possibility of taking Iran’s nuclear material under US control as a result of further negotiations.

However, the officials of Iran said that it is still too early to say about the signature of the final deal and confirmed that it will be signed within the following days.

However, despite the positive diplomacy in the air, the tension levels in the region still remain high due to the reports of explosions and Israeli military attacks in southern Lebanon. Iran has made it clear that any full ceasefire in the region should cover all fronts, especially Lebanon.

The Iranian media outlets have claimed that a schedule for the funeral and burial proceedings of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been announced.

According to reports, funeral proceedings for Ali Khamenei will commence in Tehran on July 4, while the burial proceedings will take place in Mashhad on July 9.

According to political experts, an agreement between Iran and the United States may be one of the most remarkable breakthroughs in Middle Eastern diplomacy in recent years.
