PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), warning of intermittent heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms expected from June 11 to June 13 in most parts of the province.

According to the PDMA, upper districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad are likely to experience rain accompanied by hailstorms during the forecast period.

In the southern and central regions, rainfall and thunderstorm activity are also expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, and surrounding districts. Similarly, rain and windstorms may affect Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank.

The PDMA spokesperson warned that the weather system could trigger landslides in hilly areas and cause flash floods in streams and rivers in vulnerable districts. Urban flooding is also feared in low-lying cities including Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera.

Authorities further cautioned that strong winds and hail may damage weak structures, electric poles, and solar installations, while standing crops could also be affected across agricultural areas.

District administrations have been directed to remain on high alert, ensure the availability of rescue teams, keep major roads clear, and maintain drainage systems to prevent water accumulation. Alternative traffic routes are to be arranged where necessary.

The PDMA has advised tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period and to stay away from rivers, streams, and other potentially dangerous locations.

The authority’s Emergency Operations Center remains fully operational, with a public helpline (1700) active for reporting any emergencies.
