The police and bomb disposal unit of Hango defused a dangerous anti-tank bomb planted on the roadside are in Khesari district Hangu.
According to DPO Hangu Tariq Habib, police received a tip-off on Friday morning that a suspicious object was lying on the side of the link road in Khesari area. Doaba police and bomb disposal squad reached the spot on receiving the information.
Police immediately cordoned off the area, stopped traffic and evacuated locals to a safe distance. After initial checking by the bomb disposal unit, it was found that it was a 10 kg anti-tank bomb hidden in the soil on the side of the road.
The DPO said that unknown persons had planted the bomb in the darkness of the night and it was to be detonated by remote control or timer. After about 40 minutes of hard work, the fuse and explosives of the bomb were safely defused. After defusing the bomb, it was moved to a safe place and later destroyed.
DPO Tariq Habib said that the timely action of the bomb disposal unit and police saved the area from major destruction. The 10 kg anti-tank bomb could have not only destroyed passing vehicles but also caused serious damage to the surrounding population.
Police have launched a search operation in the area. Checking has been increased on the roads of Khesari and surrounding areas. The movement of suspicious persons is being monitored.
The DPO said that intelligence-based operations are underway to identify the elements who planted the bomb and the accused will be brought to justice soon. DPO Hangu appealed to the public to immediately report any suspicious object or person in their area.
