PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) President for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, has firmly rejected the statement made by Federal Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. He asserted that Aimal Wali Khan’s speech in the Senate was neither a personal attack nor simply party politics; rather, it was a sincere and bold representation of the constitutional rights of the people of Pakistan, especially those from smaller provinces and marginalised groups.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain expressed disappointment that, instead of addressing the content of the speech with evidence, the government resorted to accusations of treason. He argued that such responses are not indicative of a democratic government but instead reflect an authoritarian mindset. Historically, whenever a leader advocates for public rights, they are often labelled as anti-national.
He emphasised that the questions raised by Aimal Wali Khan in the Senate resonate with every aware citizen: Why are smaller provinces not receiving their constitutional and financial rights? When will the NFC (National Finance Commission) award be distributed? Why has Khyber Pakhtunkhwa been denied its share of electricity profits? By what authority was the unconstitutional SIFC (Special Investment Facilitation Council) imposed on Parliament?
Mian Iftikhar Hussain stated that these inquiries are not acts of treason or anti-nationalism, but rather manifestations of genuine patriotism. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to defending the constitution and democracy, maintaining that their work focuses on the supremacy of the constitution and the nation’s survival. They demand the rights of their province, all within constitutional boundaries.
He also remarked that individuals like Talal Chaudhry should reflect on their own positions before labelling others as traitors. These same individuals had previously championed the slogan “Give respect to the vote,” but now they seem to support the mantra of “Give respect to the boot.”
Mian Iftikhar Hussain criticised their political approach as being based on covert signals and elitist attitudes. Before such individuals criticise an ideological and public leader like Aimal Wali Khan, he urged them to understand the true meanings of politics, the constitution, and integrity. The public is well aware that seats are won not through votes but through signals, and they understand where these signals originate.

He concluded by making it clear that the Awami National Party will not be intimidated by threats, accusations, or propaganda. The party has consistently advocated for the constitution, democracy, provincial autonomy, and the rights of the people, and they will continue to do so. Their voice is not raised against Pakistan, but rather in support of its real, constitutional, and collective interests. If they are labelled as traitors, history has shown that such titles are frequently applied to those who speak the truth.
