PESHAWAR: The government has decided to expand the Safe City project beyond Peshawar to include the merged districts as well as several other regions, according to budget documents.
As per the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Rs5.8 billion has been allocated for various districts under the Safe City initiative.
Additionally, Rs350 million has been estimated for the establishment of a Command and Control Center in Peshawar.
The expansion aims to strengthen crime prevention and improve responses to terrorism-related incidents.
Following Peshawar, the Safe City project will also be extended to South and North Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Kohat, Tank, Mardan, Swat, Karak, and Mansehra.
For South and North Waziristan, Orakzai, and Kurram, Rs1.8 billion has been allocated for Phase I of the project. In Phase II, the project is proposed to be expanded further to Khyber, Mohmand, and Bajaur.
An additional Rs1.6 billion has been earmarked for the broader expansion plan, while Rs500 million has been allocated for Kohat, Mardan, and Swat.
Separate allocations include Rs350 million for Karak and Tank, and an initial Rs20 million for Mansehra.
The Peshawar Safe City project has already seen expenditures exceeding Rs2 billion, with further funding proposed to enhance its scope and effectiveness across the province.
