PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially started the construction of an underpass for Rs200 billion to solve the long-standing traffic problem at Peshawar’s busiest square, “Kabootar Chowk”.

The project was inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the project by starting excavation on the Kabootar Chowk Ring Road.

Provincial ministers, PDA officials, and officers of relevant departments were also present on the occasion. According to a government announcement, this underpass project, worth Rs200 billion, will be completed in a record time of just 90 days. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has directed the PDA officials not to tolerate any delay in the work.

The responsibility of construction, supervision, and quality of the project has been entrusted to the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA). PDA officials say that the project will be completed in two months through modern machinery and shift-wise work.

Kabootar Chowk Ring Road is an important junction of Peshawar where thousands of vehicles pass daily. Citizens were facing severe difficulties due to traffic flow disruption and long jams. The construction of the underpass will enable uninterrupted traffic flow on the Ring Road.

At the launch of the project, banners of “Khbyr Pakhtunkhwa Government’s Kabootar Chowk Underpass” have been displayed at various places in Peshawar. The Chief Minister and the provincial government have expressed their commitment to providing convenience to the public on the banners.

According to experts, after the completion of Kabootar Chowk underpass, traffic accidents on the Peshawar Ring Road and the travel time are expected to be significantly reduced.
