ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced an extension in the SIM disown period as part of efforts to curb illegal mobile SIM issuance and unauthorized registrations.
According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the time period of disowning a SIM has been raised from 60 days to 365 days for curbing fraudulent SIM issuance.
The PTA advised the citizens to be careful in case of biometric registration of their new SIM, as the newly activated SIM card would now remain registered under their names for at least one year before its disowning.
It also urged the citizens to verify on a regular basis the number of SIM cards registered under their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) from the SIM information portal and via SMS.
By sending your CNIC number without dashes via SMS to 668, you may easily check the number of your registered SIMs.
The regulator advised the citizens to report immediately any unauthorized SIM issuance and registration to their mobile operators.
The citizens have been advised by the authority that they could register only those SIMs that are personally used by them.
