ISLAMABAD: An important advisory has been issued for those who travel via motorways in Pakistan as the deadline to switch from old M-Tags to the new ones is approaching.

According to reports, it has been advised that people should change their M-Tags before May 31 because once the deadline passes, old M-Tags would be invalidated.

As per officials, the motorways administration is advising users of motorways to make this transition in advance in order to save themselves from inconveniences when driving through toll plazas. Officials clarified that the process would remain free of cost until the deadline expires. But afterward, there will be a fee charged from users of motorways.

As per officials, starting June 1, the fee of replacing your old M-Tag or obtaining a new one would be PKR 150, whereas starting from July 1, this amount will be increased to PKR 300. The M-Tag system allows you to pay toll charges electronically while using motorways and this helps in reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas.

This advisory has been issued to warn users of motorways that in case they don’t renew their M-Tags in time, then this might cause inconvenience to them while traveling on motorways.

The administration added that the upgrade is part of efforts to modernize the toll collection system, improve transparency, and enhance travel convenience across the national motorway network.
