PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a dedicated fleet of 42 specialised ambulances to provide timely and safe medical services to pregnant women and newborns across the merged tribal districts of Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan.

The service was formally inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Relief, Aqib Ullah Khan, at the Provincial Headquarters of Rescue 1122 in Peshawar. Director General Shah Fahad received the minister and delivered a comprehensive briefing on the operational framework of Rescue 1122, its emergency response systems and the scope and objectives of the newly launched maternal and neonatal ambulance service.

During the briefing, Director General Rescue1122 Shah Fahad informed the minister that the specialised ambulances had been designed and equipped specifically to serve pregnant women and newborns, with a primary focus on remote and underserved communities where access to immediate medical care remains a critical challenge.

Each ambulance has been fitted with advanced life-saving equipment, including incubators, oxygen support systems, delivery kits, suction machines and patient monitoring devices, along with other essential medical tools required to manage obstetric and neonatal emergencies. Trained medical personnel will accompany every ambulance to ensure that both mother and child receive prompt and professional care throughout the transportation process.

Speaking at the inauguration, Provincial Minister Aqib Ullah Khan said that maternal and child health remained among the government’s foremost priorities and that this initiative would play a significant role in improving access to essential healthcare services in the merged tribal districts.

He added that the Rescue 1122 service would not only ensure timely medical intervention but would also contribute meaningfully to reducing complications during childbirth and preventing the loss of precious lives in some of the province’s most vulnerable communities.
