ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will host a two-day international conference on poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth on October 13–14, bringing together participants from more than 12 countries.

The conference, titled International Conference on Inclusive and Resilient Economic Empowerment and Growth, will focus on finding sustainable solutions to poverty, promoting economic growth and strengthening people’s ability to cope with economic challenges.

According to the Information Ministry, participants will discuss these issues through policy dialogue, knowledge-sharing and cooperation across different sectors. The ministry did not identify the countries expected to attend. Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation Syed Imran Ahmad Shah said the conference would provide an opportunity to review progress in poverty reduction, exchange research-based ideas and improve cooperation among government institutions, development partners and local communities.

He said the discussions would also help turn policy priorities into practical development measures. The conference comes as Pakistan continues to face challenges in reducing poverty and achieving sustainable economic growth. According to the United Nations figures cited in the report, nearly 29 percent of Pakistan’s population is living below the poverty line, compared with 21.9 percent six years ago.

Climate-related disasters, including floods and droughts, have also damaged agricultural production in the country, affecting livelihoods and adding to the difficulties faced by low-income households.

Pakistan has been seeking ways to support economic growth and improve living conditions for vulnerable communities. The upcoming conference is expected to provide a platform for participants to discuss possible approaches to poverty reduction and more inclusive development.
