SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Three persons, including Malak Tariq Wazir, were martyred and seven others were injured when a powerful blast in Wana Bazaar hit the vehicle of a tribal leader in Wana headquarters of South Waziristan, on Monday
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the blast took place in the busiest part of Wana Bazaar when tribal leader Malik Tariq Wazir’s vehicle was passing there. The blast was so intense that its sound was heard far and wide, while the blast caused severe damage to the tribal leader’s vehicle and shattered the windows of nearby shops.
As soon as the incident was reported, rescue teams and ambulances immediately rushed to the scene and started rescue operations. According to rescue officials, the injured in the blast are being immediately shifted to the nearby District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana.
The hospital administration has alerted the staff to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured, and an emergency has been imposed. The final official position regarding the condition of the tribal leader among the injured is yet to be revealed.
Immediately after the blast, a heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the scene and cordoned off the entire area. The entry and exit routes of Wana Bazaar have been cordoned off, and the crime scene has been sealed to collect evidence.
Nature of the blast: Police officials say the incident is being thoroughly investigated to determine whether the explosives were planted in a vehicle, a roadside IED, or a suicide attack. Security forces have appealed to citizens to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation, while no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
