ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced that Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be observed across the country on May 27, 2026.

According to a spokesperson, there are bright prospects for sighting the Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH crescent on the evening of May 17. The new moon is expected to appear at 1:01 AM on May 17, and by sunset that evening, it will be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes old.

Astronomical data further suggest that the duration between sunset and moonset in Pakistan’s coastal regions will be approximately 60 minutes, creating favourable conditions for a sighting. Consequently, the 1st of Dhul-Hijjah is expected to fall on Monday, May 18, placing Eid-ul-Adha on Wednesday, May 27. However, the spokesperson emphasised that the final and official decision regarding the start of the Islamic month rests solely with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will make a formal announcement based on certified testimonies and observations from across the country.
