Moderate earthquake tremors were felt in various areas of Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, due to which severe panic spread among the citizens and people came out of their homes and offices reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.

According to initial reports, the tremors were felt in the federal capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Malakand, Mardan, Lower Dir and other adjoining districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The intensity of the earthquake was so high that lamps and other equipment were seen shaking in high-rise buildings, however, no immediate reports of any loss of life or property were received.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Center of the Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, from where the waves generated reached the northern and central regions of Pakistan.

Rescue 1122 and the district administration have been put on high alert so that immediate relief operations can be initiated in any emergency situation. Citizens have been advised to be cautious in view of aftershocks and prefer to stay in open areas.
