Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have accelerated efforts to restore access to the scenic tourist destination of Desan Banda, as rehabilitation work on the Kalam Desan road entered its fourth day.
The restoration work is being carried out on the directives of Saadat Hasan Khan, Secretary Tourism and Culture, and Shozab Abbas, Director General of the Upper Swat Development Authority.
Officials said that once the road is fully restored, access to Desan Banda a well-known tourist attraction will be reopened, facilitating visitors ahead of the upcoming tourist season.
According to Saeed ur Rehman, the initiative was launched following public complaints received during an e-open court session, with the aim of promoting tourism and ensuring public convenience.
He added that the operation is being supervised by Deputy Director Operations Faheem Ullah, Assistant Director Technical Yousaf Shah, and Incharge Sub Office Kalam Nazeer Shah. Heavy machinery is being deployed to remove debris and snow, clear the road, and widen key sections to restore traffic flow at the earliest.
The spokesperson further clarified that although the road does not fall under the authority’s formal jurisdiction, emergency measures are being undertaken on the directives of senior officials to facilitate tourists and boost tourism in the region.
Authorities expressed optimism that the route will be reopened soon, allowing visitors easy access to Desan Banda and other picturesque locations in Swat during the peak travel season.
