Earthquake tremors were felt in Pakistan’s federal capital Islamabad, Peshawar and several other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, causing panic among the citizens.
According to the Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded as 5.5 on the Richter scale, due to which people came out of their homes and offices chanting the Kalima Tayyaba.
Apart from Islamabad and Peshawar, the earthquake tremors were also felt in Rawalpindi, Swat, Chitral, Hangu and North Waziristan, where buildings shook and cracks were reported in the walls. According to initial information, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the border area of Afghanistan, however, experts are collecting more data to determine the depth and exact location of the earthquake.
Local administration and rescue agencies have immediately started assessing the emergency situation in the affected areas. Fortunately, no reports of any loss of life have been received so far and no major financial loss has been confirmed. The district administration has issued an alert to all relevant agencies and has directed citizens to take precautionary measures in view of aftershocks and avoid entering buildings.
