Health experts have warned that uncontrolled blood sugar levels can initially manifest through vision-related problems, which may lead to serious eye damage if not addressed in time.

According to medical specialists, persistently high blood sugar commonly associated with Diabetes can harm multiple organs, including the heart, kidneys, nerves, and eyes. However, eye damage often develops silently in the early stages.

Experts note that initial symptoms may include mild vision impairment or difficulty recognising objects. If left untreated, the delicate blood vessels in the eyes may rupture, potentially resulting in permanent vision loss.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that patients with prolonged high blood sugar levels frequently experience symptoms such as eye swelling and blurred vision, which can progress into more serious complications over time.

Health professionals emphasise that maintaining a balanced diet and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help control blood sugar levels and protect eye health.

They also advise regular physical activity, complete avoidance of smoking and alcohol, and routine eye examinations for individuals with diabetes, noting that the eyes often reflect underlying blood sugar conditions before other symptoms appear.
