PESHAWAR (Shahid Jan): The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Accountability Committee has received formal complaints alleging corruption and misuse of authority against Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and provincial ministers Meena Khan Afridi and Aftab Alam. Committee member Qazi Anwar Advocate confirmed the allegations, stating that the committee has directed Mosaddeq Abbasi to contact the Chief Minister regarding the matter. Following the committee meeting, reports indicate that Chief Minister Afridi left for Islamabad.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, Qazi Anwar noted that the committee has not yet initiated regular action because complainants have shown hesitation in providing concrete evidence. Consultations were also held with committee member Shah Farman, who said that while evidence must be secured, the identities of the complainants should remain confidential to encourage transparency. Additional complaints have been filed against Law Minister Aftab Alam Khan, though proceedings on those specific claims are currently pending.

The allegations have sparked a sharp internal rift, with Provincial Minister Meena Khan Afridi issuing a forceful rebuttal against Qazi Anwar. Minister Afridi dismissed the claims as irresponsible and accused Qazi Anwar of seeking “cheap fame” following his resignation from the party’s primary membership. He further suggested that the advocate’s statements stem from a “state of shock” after being ousted from the Pakistan Bar Council elections and losing his position in the party’s lawyers wing.

Reaffirming his loyalty to Imran Khan’s ideology, Minister Afridi characterised the allegations as baseless attempts to maintain personal importance. While he maintained that the provincial government considers corruption a scourge that must be held accountable, he condemned the use of unsubstantiated claims as a political tool.
