Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has said that the US-Iran ceasefire is a success of diplomacy, and Pakistan played a key role in it.
Pakistani Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh made this statement in an interview with the American broadcaster CNN that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is a victory of diplomacy and dialogue.
He said that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had been ongoing for several weeks and that the country has always preferred positive diplomacy.
He said that the trust of the parties in Pakistan is valuable and Pakistan was only playing the role of a facilitator, while the parties should make the final decisions concerning themselves.
According to the ambassador, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar and China also provided important support in this process, while China urged the parties to adopt the path of patience and diplomacy.
Rizwan Saeed Sheikh added that Pakistan’s top leadership played a direct role in the diplomatic efforts, and confidentiality is very important for the success of the negotiation process. According to him, only negotiations free from pressure can prove decisive.
He said that Pakistan has long-standing relations with the Gulf countries and about 5.5 million Pakistanis reside there, while constant consultations have been ongoing with the Gulf leadership, expressing hope that these sincere efforts will yield positive results.
