ISLAMABAD: The ongoing regional tensions have started to show their economic impact on Pakistan with inflation surging to its highest level in 19 months.

According to the latest monthly report released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the country’s inflation rate reached a significant 7.30% in March 2026, marking the highest increase since August 2024.

The report revealed that the country’s inflation rate rose by 1.18% over the last two months, leading to the highest rate of inflation in the country in almost two years. The government had earlier predicted that the country’s inflation rate would rise between 7.5% and 8.5% in March.

Inflation Trends Over the Past Year

The report shows that average inflation between July 2025 and March 2026 reached 5.67% for the entire economic framework of the country. The current situation shows an increase from the February 2026 inflation rate of 6.98% while March 2025 showed a decrease to 0.7%.

The data further breaks down inflation in rural and urban areas. The annual inflation rate in rural areas reached 7.17% after prices increased by 0.96% during March. Urban areas experienced a 1.34% price increase which resulted in an annual inflation rate of 7.39%.

Economic Strain on Citizens

The rapid inflation rise creates severe financial difficulties for lower and middle-income households. The rising prices of essential goods, fuel, and transportation services create major problems for people in their daily activities.

Experts predict that Pakistan will experience higher inflation if regional conflicts continue and global commodity prices keep increasing which will create severe economic difficulties for the country.

Outlook for the Future

As the economy of Pakistan gets set to face more stress in the days to come, the government and the people of the country are in for uncertain times. With the rates of inflation still on the rise, the stability of the country’s economy could be at risk unless the issues of higher oil prices and insecurity in the region are taken care of.
