ISLAMABAD: The federal capital and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were lashed by heavy rainfall and a severe hailstorm on Sunday, bringing a sudden chill to the weather and providing much-needed relief from the heat.

The weather in Islamabad took a dramatic turn as dark clouds enveloped the city, creating a night-like atmosphere during the day. Torrential rain, accompanied by stormy winds and intense thunder, was reported across various sectors of the capital and the twin city of Rawalpindi. Similar weather patterns were observed in parts of Lahore, significantly lowering the regional temperature.

In response to the developing situation, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon issued high-alert directives to all Assistant Commissioners, ordering them to mobilise in the field and monitor their respective jurisdictions. The Deputy Commissioner said there is a need for special surveillance of low-lying areas and natural drains to prevent urban flooding and ensure a timely response to any emergency.

Furthermore, the district administration has directed sanitation and drainage teams to remain active and ensure the smooth flow of rainwater across the city’s main arteries. Monitoring of the rainfall intensity continues as the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts the current spell may persist over the next 24 hours.
