DUBAI: For the first time in the 41-year history of the Asia Cup, Pakistan and India will contest the final on Sunday.

Pakistan earned a place in the final through a tight 11-run victory over Bangladesh at the Super Four level. Bangladesh, chasing 136 runs, fell one run short of reaching their 20 overs at 124 for 9.

India had already secured their place in the final, and an thriller awaited these arch-rivals on Sunday, September 28.

There have been 16 Asia Cup editions since its first edition in 1984, but India and Pakistan have never faced each other in a final, something cricket fans all over the world had been wishing for.

“Pakistani and Indian supporters are set to enjoy a historic feast as the two nations are to meet in the Asia Cup final for the first time in history,” noted cricket analysts.

India is the most successful side in Asia Cup history with 8 titles under its belt, followed by Sri Lanka with 6, while Pakistan has taken the championship twice.
