ISLAMABAD: At least 126 people have lost their lives and 404 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26, according to a report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The report, covering the period from June 26 to August 1, highlighted the extensive human and material losses caused by heavy monsoon rains across the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 55 deaths, including 26 children. Punjab reported 47 deaths, among them 19 children, and 295 injuries, including 68 children.
In Sindh, five people, including two children, were killed and seven others injured in rain-related incidents. Balochistan reported eight deaths and 15 injuries during the same period.
The NDMA said authorities have intensified relief and rescue efforts in the affected areas. In Punjab, 75 relief camps have been established to assist rain-affected communities. Additionally, 333 heatwave camps were set up to provide medical assistance, benefiting 2,203 people.
According to the report, rescue operations continued over the past 24 hours. In Punjab, four rescue operations were carried out, during which nine people were shifted to safer locations. Rescue teams also evacuated two individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and five in Sindh.
The NDMA urged provincial authorities and citizens to remain vigilant as monsoon rains are expected to continue in several parts of the country. The authority advised residents of vulnerable areas to follow safety guidelines and cooperate with emergency services to minimize risks during adverse weather conditions.
