PESHAWAR: Under the Peshawar Board, government schools have seen an amazing increase in student enrollment that suggests a major change in the education system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a recent study given by the Department of Education during the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session, 1,619 government schools are now operating under the Peshawar Board are 891 boys’ schools and 728 girls’ schools. With 6,985 instructing in boys’ schools and 9,315 in girls’ schools, the overall number of teachers has come at 16,300.
The Education Department report showed that 2,722,225 boys and 2,699,416 girls make for a sharp increase in the total number of students taking examinations. This significant rise over five years points to rising interest as well as improvements in the educational system.
Similarly, in 2020, there were 243,396 male students; 256,498 in 2024. Likewise, the number of female students increased from 170,000 in 2020 to 221,739 in 2024.
Officials in education credit this expansion to the public’s growing understanding of the need of education and to the improved calibre of education.

The increase in enrollment is being hailed as a good move toward raising regional literacy and educational achievement.
