The number of Pakistanis travelling to Europe through illegal routes has recorded a 64 per cent decline, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Thursday.
He shared the figures during separate meetings with the Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Executive Director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.
The meetings discussed ways to enhance cooperation to curb illegal immigration, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening joint measures for prevention and border management.
Mohsin Naqvi said eliminating illegal immigration was the government’s target and stressed the need to create new avenues for legal migration to further reduce irregular migration.
The ICMPD director general appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to combat illegal immigration.
The meetings also focused on strengthening coordination between Pakistan and European authorities to address illegal migration and improve border management.
