WASHINGTON: A recent survey has revealed that 63% of Americans hold President Donald Trump responsible for the sharp increase in petroleum prices, with 81% reporting financial strain due to soaring fuel costs.
The NRP PBS News and Marist Poll, carried out from April 27 to April 30, revealed that 8 out of 10 Americans are experiencing unusual strain on their family budgets due to the increase in fuel prices. On the other hand, 19 percent of the participants declared themselves unaffected by the increase in fuel prices.
The findings also revealed that 37 percent of Americans held Trump accountable indirectly, pointing to a huge difference in perception about fuel price increases.
According to media reports, gasoline prices in the US reached $4.56 per gallon on Thursday, up from $2.98 per gallon before the outbreak of the conflict in Iran.
Trump: Three US warships pass Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian attacks
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that three US Navy destroyers successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz despite attacks from Iranian forces, with no damage sustained to the American ships.
In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that while the Iranian attack targeted the destroyers, the missiles and drones launched were intercepted and neutralized without harming the US vessels. He added that the American forces destroyed the small attacking Iranian boats, which sank in the water.
Trump described the Iranian drone strikes as ineffective, claiming they fell into the sea “like butterflies,” and criticized Iran’s leadership, calling them “madmen” who would use nuclear weapons if given the chance. He warned that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
He also said that the US has delivered a “knockout” to Iran, and if diplomatic deals are not signed, even harsher measures could follow.
