ISLAMABAD: Tea is a major part of everyday life in Pakistan. Some people drink milk tea first thing in the morning, others take green tea after meals, or they drink it during work breaks. This prevalent practice usually leads to asking the very question: which tea type is the best for daily consumption?
Milk Tea
Milk tea is the one that is usually most consumed in households. Black tea leaves, milk and sugar are the main components of the preparation. Although it is pleasing and stimulating, health experts claim that the addition of milk may lessen some of the tea’s natural advantages.
The study indicates that tea’s certain beneficial compounds, especially antioxidants, may be hindered due to the presence of milk. On the other hand, nutritionists assert that milk tea is not a problem for persons who are neither lactose intolerant nor allergic to milk. Milk, besides, has nutrients in considerable amounts like calcium and vitamin D, and these are very good for bones.
Experts advise drinking milk tea in between meals instead of with food since drinking it along with meals can lead to nutrient absorption being affected.
Black and Green Tea
It is usually accepted that black and green teas nursed without adding milk or sugar have more antioxidants. Specifically, green tea is considered to be the best for digestion, metabolic rate and cardiovascular health, whereas black tea is said to improve mental acuity and gut health.
The health experts advise to drink all kinds of tea in moderation and also suggest to choose the one that suits the individual health needs and tolerance levels the best.
