The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday reported a 0.24 per cent increase in inflation last week, bringing the annual inflation rate to 3.75 per cent.

According to the PBS, prices of 17 essential items rose, while 14 items saw a decline, and 20 items remained unchanged over the week.

The sharpest increases were observed in live broiler chicken 11.11%, chillies 3%, eggs 2.88%, and cooking oil up to 0.32%. Other items that became costlier included mung beans, yoghurt, beef, clothes, timber, and energy savers.

Conversely, prices of tomatoes, potatoes, sugar, onions, mash lentils, garlic, salt, gur, diesel, and LPG declined during the same period, according to the PBS.

The bureau’s data highlights the mixed trend in essential commodity prices, reflecting fluctuations across food and non-food items.
